Wigan Pier – the return of an icon

Step Places is working in partnership with Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council, the Canal & River Trust and The Old Courts to completely transform Wigan Pier, breathing a new lease of life into the place intrinsically linked to Wigan’s industrial and cultural heritage.

From 2022, Wigan Pier will be home to a conference, events and wedding venue with a food hall and live music venue, a new arts and education centre, and a brewery and gin distillery.

It’s not just Wigan Pier undergoing changes, Wigan has embarked upon significant growth with major developments underway across the town centre.

From Waterside Gardens and Wigan Pier, you are just a few minutes from both Wigan train stations and the town centre. The DW Stadium, home of Wigan Warriors Rugby League Football Club and Wigan Athletic, is just a short walk away from Waterside Gardens.

Wigan has a fantastic arts and cultural scene with the amazing The Fire Within and the fantastic arts centre The Old Courts, to give just a couple of examples.

There’s plenty of countryside close by too. Just across Wigan town centre, you will find Mesnes Park with its beautiful pavilion and very tasty Fredericks Ice Cream.

A little further out of town is Haigh Woodland Park with lots of walks, golf course and regular farmers’ markets.

At Poolstock, you can access the canal tow-path which opens up a whole network of walking and running routes.
